We really enjoyed all the activities this week. We had DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read), the Story Granny came in to read us a story, we got to buy a new book at the book fair and on Friday we dressed up as our favourite book character. We had an assembly today where 2 children were chosen for the best costumes and the winner of the book cover competition was chosen.
History
We have been learning about our grandparents and the games they used to play. We tried some of them today in our school yard. we played Queenie, Hopscotch and skipping games.
Pancake tuesday
The Writing workshop
Each week, we write our own stories. First we do lots of talking about the characters we are going to write about and what will happen in our story. Then we begin writing and try to focus on one thing each week. For example, this week we tried to remember to start each with a capital letter and last week we focused on finger spaces. At the end of the year, we will put all our stories together to make a book.
Grandparents Day
We wrote about our grandparents. We had great stories and memories with our grandparents. We also made play-dough today and used this play-dough to make a model of a grandparent we love.
Maths
We have started learning how to measure things. Today we used lollipop sticks to measure lots of different things in our classroom. We also learned about predictions and that it doesn't matter if they are wrong or right!
Weather
In first class, we have been learning about all the different types of weather we can have here in Ireland. We watched the wether forecast this week and then decided we wanted to see how much rain we get each day. We put a container in our garden to collect the rain.
Our christmas breakfast
We really enjoyed sharing a breakfast this morning with all our friends.
